Eating Organic Could Save Your Life

What are high fiber foods

The organic food sector in the United States, with 4.6 million acres of organic farmland, is valued at 29.22 billion dollars. In order to enhance the health conscious trend in America, synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers are never used on organic foods. In addition, many organic products are high in fiber, and a high fiber diet has been proven to help maintain a healthy weight, lower cholesterol, and regulate bowel movements. The list of high fiber foods is longer than some may think, as multiple food groups contain their own list of high fiber foods.

1. Whole grains. It has been proven that eating whole grains over refined grains can help reduce the risk of multiple chronic diseases, including heart disease, obesity, type two diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Brown rice, whole wheat and multigrain bread, whole wheat spaghetti, pearled barley, and oatmeal are all examples of high fiber, whole grain foods. Many whole grain foods contain between two and six grams of fiber per serving.

2. Beans. In addition to being high in fiber, beans also contain healthy amounts of fat, carbohydrates, and protein. Over 40,000 different beans varieties are known to exist in the world. Some of the most commonly consumed legumes are peas, lentils, baked beans, Lima beans, black beans, kidney beans, navy beans, and soybeans. Many beans, when cooked, contain between 10 and 16 grams of fiber per serving.

3. Fruits and vegetables. It can be easy to forget that fruits and vegetables are included on the list of high fiber foods, as some people mainly consume them based on their low calorie counts. Apples and pears with the skin, artichokes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, corn, raspberries, and bananas are all high in fiber. Many fruits and vegetables can contain between one and 10 grams of fiber per serving.

Eating healthy, by following a high fiber diet, can greatly improve your health. Since the list of high fiber foods is nearly endless, it is possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle just by putting some of these foods into your body. The Earth provides us with these foods for a reason, and that reason is to keep us healthy and strong.

  1. Go green! Born and raised vegan for 32 years now. My doctor says I am as healthy as a horse, and I can thank my organic diet for that. Its a shame people die at a young age, but fast food and other processed food take years off your life!

  2. Thanks but no thanks, I will stick with my cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets, and chips. Why should I change what I eat just to add a couple more years to my life? Life has to end sometime, might as well make the most of it before that happens.
